About HiStranger
HiStranger is a small, independent project that lets you have anonymous 1-on-1 conversations with random people online. No account, no login, no downloads. Text only, browser-based, free.
Why we built it
Omegle shut down in November 2023 after 14 years. It was for years the default place where people went to have short, unstructured conversations with strangers — for language practice, curiosity, boredom, or just a five-minute window into another person's world. When it closed, that entire experience disappeared behind logins and paid apps.
We wanted a text-first, lightweight replacement. Something a stranger could open on their phone during a bus ride, in a hostel lobby, on a lunch break — and be talking to someone within seconds. That's HiStranger.
Who runs this
HiStranger is built and maintained by a small independent team. We're not backed by a VC, don't sell user data, and don't run ads. The site is funded out of pocket while we test whether the core idea deserves to grow. If you want to reach us, use the contact page.
How we think about safety
Random stranger chat comes with real risks — for children, for anyone sharing personal details, for anyone who trusts strangers with private information. We've written a full guide on how to chat safely, and we enforce our own guidelines: no minors (site is 18+), no harassment, no requests for personal information or money. Users can skip anyone at any time; we shadow-ban repeat abusers.
What we don't do
- We don't require an account. Ever.
- We don't sell or share your chat data.
- We don't run ads on the chat page.
- We don't archive chats — messages exist only in the moment you send them.
